Central Highlands Agribusiness Forum
The organisation was established in 2004, after recommendations from a regional capability audit of the Victorian Central Highlands region, The Forum’s activities seek to include all regional shires, commodity and interest groups associated in agribusiness development. The geographical area covered includes the City of Ballarat, and the Shires of Hepburn, Macedon Ranges, Moorabool and Pyrenees. Board members to bring to CHAF a diverse range of skills and experience in the agribusiness sector, government and industry.
Snapshot of the Region
The Central Highlands region’s agribusiness sector is typified by increasingly diverse agricultural production, with a growth rate of 25% from 1997 to 2001 and a reduction in land use for agricultural purposes in the same period from 548,004 hectares to 522,429 hectares.
It is the 4th largest industry by value, following manufacturing, retail and construction.
Benefits to the Agribusiness Sector
All areas of agribusiness will benefit from having a Strategic Plan and Marketing and Business Plan to assist agricultural production, service and value adding enterprises in the region to achieve business growth and profitability.
Agribusiness and government within the Central Highlands region will be able to use the Strategic Plan to support their projects and business development plans. It will identify the opportunities for the sector to work together to further develop the region’s agricultural sector.
The agribusiness sector is operating in a period of substantial and dynamic change. The continued growth of this sector will depend on how this change is addressed.

CHAF Board Director Honoured
|
Victorian Beef Producer and CHAF Board Director, Sue Morgan is the latest recipient of a scholarship designed to encourage women to take up leadership roles in industry. Sue who runs a commercial and stud beef cattle business at Woodend, will participate in a course run by the Australian Institute of Company Directors, thanks to funding by Meat & Livestock Australia and the Australian Government.
Sue is one of 11 women in agriculture who received the Corporate Governance Scholarship, announced recently.
"Women represent around on-third of Australia's farm workforce , with more than 70,000 employed as farmers or farm managers - unfortunately their presence on senior industry decision-making bodies is not as strong as we would like." said Ms Sussan Ley, Parliamentary Secretary for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, when announcing the Scholarships recently.
The intensive five-day course is designed to help provide participants with the skills and confidence to boost their presence on industry boards, committees and working groups.
Congratulations to Sue Morgan.
