The CHAF Demo Farm is situated on the corner of Foley's Road and the Clunes- Newstead Road at Clunes. The demo Farm covers an area of approximately 20ha. The aim of the Demo Farm is to undertake trials and demonstrations into a variety of grain and oil seed crops that could be grown in our area . We also have long term pasture and lucerne trials. 2009 season activitiesBiochar TrialIn the 2009 season we have established a biochar trial utilising biochar produced from poultry litter. The trial has three replicates and biochar added at 0, 1, 2.5 and 5 tonne/ha. Alternative Fertiliser TrialIn 2008 we established a trial looking at alternative fertilisers in conjunction with Ian Munro of Munash Ferlisers. This site has the following treatments: Test 1 Control - Normal Crop Planting with MAP fertiliser Test 2 Nil Fertiliser with Munash Eco-min, Omnia seedboost, Omnia Boost K and Bio-N Test 3 Control - Munash Eco-min, MAP and Bio-N Test 4 Munash Cropping Program with Munash Eco-min, MAP, Omnia Seedboost, Omnia Boost K and Bio-N Test 5 Control Nil Fertiliser Long Term P TrialWe also have a Incitec Pivot Long Term Phosphorus Trial , currently in its second year. This will investigate the impact of P applications over the long term. Variety TrialAs part of the variety trials this year have sown 44 varieties of wheat, 12 Triticale varieties, 5 Oat varieties, 12 Barley varieties and 13 Canola varieties. Cropping CompetitionAs part of the program this year we have establ;ished a competition. The groups competing represent Young Farmers, Agronomists, Alternative Fertilsers, Mature farmers and Finacial Professionsal (Banking and accounting representation). Each Group will make management decisions on how their plot is managed. The winner will be judged on the Gross Margin received for their plot.
